Looking beyond the loft

When the current owners first bought this stunning house in the quiet village of Ilkley, Leeds, they knew how much potential it had. So they called Truss Loft® Conversions.

Established in 1995 they complete over 150 conversions a year, making them the UK’s leading truss roof loft conversion specialists. However, as Managing Director Tim Benson puts it, this was one of their toughest jobs to date.

“Even after 10 years in the building trade, this was a bit of a learning curve for us.”

What you learn when you look around the house is how much can be achieved by opening yourself up to the possibilities of natural light.

Access to the whole of the house is from the impressive grand staircase, lit naturally from above using a single VELUX Roof Window. It’s here you begin to get a feel for the property, and appreciate the size and scale of the project Truss Lofts undertook.

All the bedrooms on the first floor have balconies with sliding glass doors to let the light in. It was important that they carried this use of light through to the newly converted second floor.

“In a sloping roof, blocks of windows are recommended, as they give you more light and extra headroom.”

The owners are particularly pleased with the huge living room which leads out onto a beautiful VELUX Roof Terrace. This releases the views of the surrounding area, and also adds real value to the home.
