A sunroom with a view
When Linda and David Walker fell in love with this four bedroom detached house, they had the imagination to see beyond its dated decor. Built in the 1970’s by a local builder, it had all the potential to become a dream family home.
With the help of their architect they began turning that dream into a reality. And in doing so, built what has become the home’s most impressive feature. A bright and airy sunroom with expansive views across the rolling moors of Emley in Huddersfield.
It took just eight weeks for Linda and David to complete the transformation. They used traditional materials to build the large sunroom to help it blend perfectly with its surroundings. Step inside, however, and you’ll find more modern touches.
"We’ve always lived in houses with large rooms that let in plenty of light and fresh air. That was one thing this house was missing. Adding a sunroom was the perfect way to change that."
Installing VELUX Integra® electric roof windows allows the temperature of the sunroom to be altered at the touch of a button. They can also set the windows to operate at a time that suits them.
"We’ve used VELUX Roof Windows before. So we know how much light they let in. They were an ideal choice."
Every room in the house is full of light. Downstairs, the pale colours on the walls and large semi-glazed double doors help to reflect the additional light from the sunroom. This makes each of the rooms appear much larger and more inviting.
"We no longer use the lounge. We spend most of our time as a family in our new sunroom."
As well as helping to create a bright and welcoming family home, the addition of the sunroom will add substantial value.
