"We got tired of always shunting our dinner guests through into the living room after a lovely meal in our rather cramped kitchen/dining area," admits Julie Brown in Hove.

"What we really wanted was space to spread out around a bigger table and unwind with good chat and a nice bottle (or three!) of wine at the end of an evening. My husband Ian and I remortgaged and had a lovely extension added to the side of our existing kitchen which, in effect, created a completely new home for ourselves."

"We’ve put decking outside so we can enjoy alfresco cocktails in the summer and our new VELUX electric skylights mean we get the benefit of all available daylight until the shadows fall."
